Glossary of Terms
- 301 Redirect – Redirecting a visitor to another web page.
- 302 Redirect – Redirecting a visitor to another page, used for temporary situations.
- 404 Error – Error message that appears when a user tries to go to a webpage that does not exist.
- Adsense – A platform created by Google which allows websites to earn money by publishing Google network ads on their website.
- Automation – Using computer programs to perform repetitive tasks that would otherwise be performed by a human.
- Banner Ad – A popular type of ad that can be placed on various web pages.
- Bing – A web search engine operated by Microsoft.
- Bing ads – gives pay-per-click advertising which enables you to earn money by the number of clicks on an ad.
- Bot – An automated program.
- Bounce Rate – The percentage of users who leave your site without interacting.
- Code – The languages used to build a website.
- Crawler – Automated software that scans sites.
- Conversion Rate – the rate at which visitors complete a predetermined goal.
- DNS – Domain Name System translates websites URLs.
- Email Marketing – Using email with the goal of acquiring customers.
- Ecommerce – Stands for Electronic Commerce, it is a classification for businesses that perform business online.
- HTML – Stands for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML is a set of codes that can be used to tell a web browser how to display a page.
- Java – Java is a programming language that creates applications that can run on a device. Javascript can only be used in web browsers.
- Keyword Density – Keyword density refers to a percentage of the number of times a keyword appears on a page.
- Lead – Is a potential customer in the sales funnel who communicates with the business and shows intent to purchase.
- Query – The term given for what a user types and searches using search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
- Redirect – The web browser takes a user from one page to another the user has no input. There are many types of redirects the most common one being the 301.
- URL – stands for Uniform Resource Locator and is the address of a web page. The URL refers to what specific web page a web browser is viewing.
- Visits – An old term in Google Analytics which has since been replaced by “sessions”.
- XML – Stands for extensible markup language. XML allows for customizable tags for marking up information.
